History of GYC
The Great Yorkshire Chorus was founded in September 2018, with a vision to be a choir for all, aspiring to create excellent music whilst building a great sense of fun and friendship.
GYC sings an eclectic mix of pop, folk, gospel and world music which we often use our own bespoke arrangements for. We think everyone has a valuable voice and aim to create a safe space where everyone can work towards becoming a more confident singer, no matter their starting point.
At our inception, we quickly grew into a very large choir and have consistently had 100 plus members ever since. We have a brilliant sense of camaraderie and have enjoyed performing together at all sorts of concerts and events over our time together. Big highlights include our annual Christmas concerts at St George’s Hall, Bradford and our wonderful tour to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022.
In 2023 we celebrate our 5th anniversary by recording our first album ‘5 Years Together’. (You can buy it on our shop page here!) The album includes all our favourite songs for the early years and we had a fantastic time creating it.
As we look ahead, we hope to provide our singers with many more wonderful opportunities in the future, staying true to our ethos of high musical achievement, fun and friendship. Here’s to the next 5 years!
